What is the role of the choroid in the eye?

The choroid plays a crucial role in the eye by providing essential nutrients to the retina. It is a layer of blood vessels and connective tissue located between the sclera (the white part of the eye) and the retina. The choroid is rich in blood supply, which is vital for the health of the retinal cells, as they require a continuous supply of oxygen and nutrients to function correctly. This nutrient transport is essential for processes such as phototransduction, which is how light is converted into electrical signals by the retina, enabling vision.
